12 years ago, we started with two- Paul Dhillon and myself. Big goals at the time, with a one time plan to do an epic ride and raise some money for cancer. We were so overwhelmed by the entire experience that we came back again and again and invited others to join in the experience. At our largest team year we hit 35 riders!
After my first ride my step-mom was diagnosed with non-smokers lung cancer. In 2015 she passed away. Three years together with some amazing life memories made with a chemo drug that slowed the process. But I also sat helpless as she went through end stage cancer with the approach of, " This is a new life experience."
I ride always for her. I ride for Better Outcomes; for all those I meet who are facing cancer or helping someone close to them face cancer.
Surj joined the team in 2015 as a cancer survivor and has helped to spearhead leadership and the drive to keep this team going. As captains, we struggle constantly with an endpoint. How long do we carry on with this cause that is so dear to so many of us? The decision was made during our 2023 ride.
1 MILLION DOLLARS! When we hit this all time fundraising goal, we can call this journey complete! We have a few years ahead but have done this with the ongoing support of family, friends and businesses who have stood behind us for this important cause.
In 12 years, we have seen Better Outcomes which have changed lives and that is what keeps us going. If we can make a difference for even one person, one life, then this journey has been worth all the effort and energy that goes into each year.
