Hello everyone! I am a nurse practitioner providing supportive and palliative care for the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant program in Vancouver.
On August 24-25, I am participating in a 260km cycling challenge called the Tour de Cure - a fundraiser to help the BC Cancer Foundation raise funds to develop novel drug screening programs that will inform individualized treatment plans for patients with leukemia who are running out of treatment options. This novel drug screening program will hopefully allow patients to receive treatments that will prolong survival, improve quality of life and spend time closer to their loved ones at home. This is my second year cycling for a cure; last year, I cycled 200km. This year, I'm cycling 260km, woohoo!
The Leukemia/BMT (L/BMT) program at Vancouver General Hospital is the only center within BC and Yukon that provides intensive chemotherapy and/or stem cell transplant to patients with aggressive hematologic malignancies. Our patients relocate to Vancouver for many months to receive intensive treatment. My role within the LBMT program is to support quality of life in patients who are running out of treatment options.
I am well into my cycling training, doing back to back rides every weekend to crush these long distances! I am riding not only in honor of cancer survivors, but also to celebrate the lives of patients (and their families) whom I've cared for who did not survive.
Please consider supporting me by making a donation - any amount is appreciated! Your donation will help me achieve my fundraising goal of $2500 AND motivate me in this challenge!
There is an option to donate ANONYMOUSLY if you wish. Tax receipts will be provided.
My deepest gratitude for your support! <3
