Last spring under encouragement from coworkers I hesitantly signed up for my first Tour de Cure ride.
At the time I saw it as a way to motivate myself to get back in shape, but in the months leading up to the event I had a major eye opener as to how lucky I have been that even at 33 my personal exposure to cancer had been limited.
The stories from those I was riding with about themselves and loved ones they were riding for varied from awesome and inspiring, to crushing and heart wrenching. Some riders were not just survivors, but fighting cancer while training and doing the 200+ km 2-day ride. I have met some truly incredible people in my time riding with the Wheelin' Warriors of the North.
Once I started sharing that I was participating in the Tour de Cure last year, people I had known for years or even the majority of my life started sharing personal stories which I had not known previously.
The time spent with the team over the last year has been extremely humbling to say the least.
In August I will be embarking on this same 200km+ cycling challenge again by committing to participate in the 2024 Tour de Cure.
Not only am I looking for support, I also highly recommend that you take a look at the main page for more info or even consider riding yourself in the future. The 2-day event is an unforgettable experience.
Funds raised through the Tour de Cure support life-saving research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer, but funds raised by the Wheelin' Warriors of the North stay in our northern treatment and research center in Prince George.
