In August of 2024, I will embark on a 200 Km cycling challenge. I have committed to participate in the Tour de Cure to help raise money for cancer research in BC.
My story for this ride stems from my greatest supporter, my father. He created the team I ride on today called the BRAINAICS with four other brain cancer survivors. He has been doing the ride for over 15 years now, and I am happy to say I will be joining him and my sister for the second year in a row!
Here is a quick recap of why I ride: When I was one, and more recently 18, my father was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The first time around it was an aggressive stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme, which bares a survival rate of under 5%, and more recently it was small Angiocentric glioma right above his ear which put my dad in hospital in March of 2024. With his will, the healthcare workers, the BRAINIACS, and the amazing researchers at the BC Cancer Foundation, he has beat brain cancer twice. I owe my father being here today because of modern medicine and hope for a cure.
