On August 24th and 25th , 2024, I will participating for the 1st time in the Tour de Cure, benefitting the BC Cancer Foundation. Funds raised through the Tour will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer. This is a 2 day, 200km bike ride through the Lower Mainland (gulp).
Cancer affects all of us. My reason for riding this year is that a dear friend of mine, Roger Fordham, was diagnosed with Stage 4 lymphoma before Christmas. Roger has had a profound impact on my life since I moved to Vancouver. He was my dive instructor from day 1 and took me under his wing as a mentor and close friend since. He was there when when my confidence was rattled and kept encouraging me to get back in the water. While Roger is no longer able to be my instructor for now, he has encouraged me to continue honing my skills, still giving me tips and pointers when I visit him! A true definition of friend and mentor.
This is just one of thousands of stories of why we ride from those participating in August. August 24-25th is going to be hella challenging and there is going to be a LOT of F-bombs dropped but nothing compared to what he and others around the world are going through in their battles. I'll be riding slowly but proudly with Fordham's name on my jersey these two days.
Please consider donating to either my personal page or to MNP's team page. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Jenn
