In November of 2021 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had no symptoms and it did not show up on a routine mammogram. It was found by accident as part of another test.
My cancer is of a form that is hard to find and as a result is often found at a later stage. This means that the prognosis is generally worse. I am lucky that when it was found it had not spread and there were effective treatment options available. Those involved surgery, radiation and a five-year program of drugs to starve any cancer cells remaining in my body. This program has been personalized to my situation based on significant past investments in research and funding for genetic testing. Without those past investments my experience and prognosis would be very different.
This year I am participating in the Tour de Cure, a fundraising event that supports the BC Cancer Foundation. Funds raised through the Tour de Cure will support the type of life-saving research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer, that I have benefited from.
I am asking you to join me in supporting lifesaving research by making a donation to my fundraising page. No matter how big or small, every dollar counts and makes a difference. Together, we can create a world where cancer is no longer a threat. Thank you for your support and generosity.
Thank you so much for your support!
