12 years ago, my beautiful friend Mikyn passed away from cancer. She was in her 30's, leaving behind her husband and young son.
Sometimes I forget Mikyn is gone. We used to talk extensively about our kids, trying new recipes, and public practice life. Her recipe blog still sits on my bookmark bar, and I still go there for her old fashioned beef stew and her blueberry muffin recipe. I can still see her big smile and bright eyes, and hear her voice talk about her little boy with such joy and pride.
I wish no little boy ever has to lose their mom to cancer.
In August of 2024 I will be embarking on a cycling challenge to honor Mikyn. I have committed to participate in the Tour de Cure to help BC Cancer Foundation break down cancer. Funds raised through the Tour de Cure will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer, bringing hope to cancer patients in British Columbia and making an impact around the world.
