Those of you that know me, know that I'm a fan of history, fan of science and a fan of humanity's ability to overcome historical adversities through scientific advancements.

Last year, I had a knee surgery to repair an ailing sports injury that made me appreciate these concepts even more.

What would have my surgery looked like if William Morton didnt first use ether (and later chloroform) as an anaesthetic in 1846 to perform life-saving painless operations? And what would have my chances of post-surgery recovery looked like if Louis Pasteur didnt reveal the Germ Theory (1861) and enabled Joseph Lister (1867) to apply these findings to his antiseptic surgical care and wound management principles? And finaly, what would have my chances of knowing the real issue in the first place been without Paul Lauterbur medical imaging technology (MRI) findings from 1973?

Fast forward to present time... I'm fortunate my surgery went well and the knee recovery is on track. I put a lot of hard work to be able to do some of the activities I love, but I still have ways to go to reach pre-injury parity. But I do realise how fortunate I am that historical advancements in medicine were able to help identify and fix my medical ailment.

Sadly, same can not be said for everyone else... There are so many ailments and diseases that we still dont have a solution for, and cancer is top of this list. Sadly, we all know someone affected by this dreadful disease. I have family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, friends of friends... affected by it. And I want to do my part to help move it to history. We've eradicated smallpox (deadliest disease of 19th centry)... lets eradicate cancer too!

This is why I decided to participate in the 2024 Tour de Cure event to help BC Cancer Foundation break down cancer. It will be a 200km+ bike ride over two days from Surrey/Cloverdale to Hope. It will be long, it will be hard, but does not compare to what those battling with cancer go through. But I can't do it alone, I need help to reach the required fundraising goal to participate. Nobody can do everything, everyone can do something.

I look fwd to your support on this quest for personal rehab and medical advancements to battle and eradicate cancer.
