Year 16? How can it already be my 16th year of doing these cancer rides? How is it possible that youre still tolerating my nagging fund-raising emails after 16 years? I dont know the answer to these questions, but Im grateful: grateful that I am still able to ride and even more grateful that you have not only tolerated me, but cheered me on and supported me more generously than I ever could have imagined when I first embarked on this cancer ride crusade so long ago.
In less than 2 months, were off yet again: The Ontario Ride to Conquer Cancer in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre takes place on June 8th and 9th, and the BC Tour de Cure in support of the BC Cancer Foundation will follow two and half months later, on August 24th and 25th. As I have for the past 8 years, Ill be doing both rides, and I hope youll support me once again. Stevi and I will again match the first $10,000 of your donations.
I wish there was no need for these rides. I wish cancer was gone and your donations were unnecessary. But as we all know, the need remains. Too many of our family and friends continue to be afflicted by cancer, and while many more of their cases will have happy outcomes today thanks to the research your donations has helped fund over the past 15 years, too many still wont.
So, come rain, storms, forest fires, smoke, whatever well keep riding until we no longer have to (ok, Ill keep riding after that too, but Ill stop bugging you for donations at that point).
I couldnt have kept this up for so long without your inspiring, longstanding support and more importantly, there are cancer survivors here today that wouldnt be without your donations. Any donation you are able to make to either ride is both meaningful and hugely appreciated. Thank you.
Damon.
