With so many families and friends having been impacted by cancer I have committed to participate in the Tour de Cure this August to help the BC Cancer Foundation with its fight against Cancer. This is a 2-day 200km cycling event takes place on August 24th and 25th. All of the funds raised in the North stay in the North.
This will be my second year participating in this event and while last year I rode for friends and family that had been impacted by Cancer. This year I am riding for everybody.
The reason for this change is the impact that was left with me last year after the ride. It was so inspirational to have people standing on the sides of the road cheering myself and all of the other participants on, on thanking all of us for trying so hard to one day beat Cancer. It was also great to be out riding and having members of other teams ride up and cheer me on and share their stories.
I am also riding for my teammates. Many of my teammates are Cancer survivors. Some of them are lucky to be with us today, some have delt with this grueling disease multiple times, some are fighting it right now, and some have recently lost loved ones. All of this due to Cancer. Every one of these riders has an truly inspirational story to share, and it makes a person want to try that much harder to fight against Cancer.
This will be a challenge, and it will be long, but it does not compare to the challenge of facing cancer, but I am committed to making training and fundraising for it a priority.
Funds raised through the Tour de Cure will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer, bringing hope to cancer patients in British Columbia and making an impact around the world.
