Hello,
Dont call it a comeback, or maybe you can Im gearing up for another cycling ride on August 24/25th in support of the BC Cancer Foundation!
Hard to believe it, but I started participating in this important event back in 2009 in memory of my mother Diane and my father-in-law Bruce. It was a tough couple of years for Laura and I back then but we pushed on - rarely does a day go by without thinking of our parents. Wanting to give back and raise funds to fight Cancer in memory of our loved ones lost, we formed a team called Stoney & The Brucesters. You remember that peloton right? Over the years the team grew, friends and family jumped on, we made custom jerseys, rode hard, had plenty of laughs, shed some tears, and raised a lot of money thanks to generous donors like you! Then everyone got married, had kids (lots of kids!), and became increasingly busy with work and commitments on the home front. Cancer didnt let up unfortunately, more and more people have received a diagnosis over the last fifteen years, families have suffered.
Years passed and I eventually joined my team here at work called the PH&N Horny Goats. Although Stoney & The Brucesters hung their bikes up some time ago, the Horny Goats carried on and have raised an impressive amount of money for the BC Cancer Foundation. Then this little thing called COVID-19 arrived and shook the world, subsequently cancelling the Tour de Cure for a couple years, only for it to return recently in a new format that takes us on a two day ride from Cloverdale to Hope instead of going down to Seattle. Fear not your donations are still well earned as we cycle for 200+ kilometers!
I havent ridden every year, but Ive done most of them. Whats put a shot in my legs for this years ride is pretty simple - I love riding my bike and I hate cancer! I also recently had the opportunity to join the board of the BC Cancer Foundation (https://bccancerfoundation.com/about-us/board-leadership-and-councils/) and will be increasing my commitment and time towards fighting cancer here in BC. Im truly honored be on this board. Its a wonderful group of people collectively working on important initiatives, programs, and capital campaigns to irradicate cancer throughout communities across our province.
The BC Cancer Foundation supports the important work that is undertaken at the BC Cancer Agency. Last year alone the Foundation had nearly 280,000 donations which drove total revenues of $85 million. Its truly a world class organization. The list of accomplishments is long, the impacts are immense. This cause needs our support now and forever!
My legs are asking for your support again this year, theyre deeply grateful for it. Your donations are cherished and help this critical fight. I cant thank you enough.
Thank you thank you thank you!
