**Cycling for a Purpose:**
Behind every dental student's determination lies a deeper purpose, and for me, it's the relentless pursuit to inspire those around me. This summer, I'm swapping my textbooks for bike gear, embarking on the 2-day Tour De Cure cycling challenge with a singular goal: to pedal toward a world free from the clutches of cancer. As I balance dental school demands with rigorous training sessions, I'm fueled by the stories of resilience and hope from those battling cancer.
Why now? Because cancer doesn't wait for convenient timing.
**In Loving Memory:**
- This year holds special meaning to my team as we remember the passing of our dear teammate and friend, Henry Doyle. Henrys dedication to the cause was so great that he had already signed up for the 2024 Tour
- With great sadness, my mom's beloved friend, Melissa, has recently passed away, just eight months after her diagnosis. Melissa was a vibrant and energetic healthcare professional, deeply passionate about the outdoors, and she was my mother's enthusiastic hiking companion. Despite undergoing numerous chemotherapy trials, Melissa's medical team, unfortunately, couldn't find a tailored treatment for her cancer.
- From a commitment to the cause, Dr. Catherine Poh and Dr. Michelle Williams initiated Team Better Outcomes. Dr. Williams, a respected member of the faculty at UBC and an accomplished oral cancer researcher, inspired everyone with her battle against cancer. In the wake of her passing, the team has been reinvigorated under the name Team Better Outcomes 2, symbolizing our commitment to carry forward her legacy of hope and progress.
