I was initially inspired to start this team in 2017 for my mom, Joey, who is a three time cancer survivor. My mom is an incredibly resilient woman - she's a Filipina pop star who put her career on pause and immigrated to Canada to raise two (not-always-easy :) ) daughters in a completely new context. And she runs a daycare while still doing concerts! I am very proud of her and thankful for the healthcare we have here, so I wanted to give back in some way. It also helps that I love riding bikes.

In the last five years of doing the ride, it did not cross my mind that I might also have to battle cancer. I was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer in October 2023, and have completed a round of treatment. It has been a difficult journey and I am currently on the road to recovery. I have experienced firsthand the care and expertise that BC Cancer has to offer and am determined to raise funds and give back by completing the Tour de Cure again this year.

Please join me on this journey and support in any way you can. Your donation will help me achieve my fundraising goal and inspire me to get healthy enough to ride this year :).

Funds raised through the Tour de Cure will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer, bringing hope to cancer patients in British Columbia and making an impact around the world.

Thank you so much for your support! And thank you to those who have supported me in other ways on my cancer journey. Any amount of support really goes a long way and provides strength on the not-so-strong days - much love to you all.

xo,
Marga
