Please support me in this Tour de Cure cycling challenge of at least 200km in two days on Aug 24/25 2024, and sleeping in a tent in a tent between ride days! Funds raised through the Tour de Cure will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer, bringing hope to cancer patients in British Columbia and also making an impact around the world.
Bringing with me a couple other donations, $100 cheque from George Manz and $50 donation from Stewart & Louise Ladyman", so my total now is $2,855 not $2,705 so almost at my $3,000 goal. Thank you to everyone who has donated to cancer research through my ride in this event this year.
I may try to cycle the 160km challenge route on the first day, having done so successfully last yaer, though I may instead only do the regular 100km route the first day, depending on the weather and how this aging 68 year old body feels (but forecast currently the day before says 100% chance of 6mm to 12mm of rain!). I will then cycle the 100km classic route 2nd day that all participating cyclists set out to ride that day. Last yr when I did manage, barely, to complete the 160km on the 1st day, I was however also one of the last riders in, almost missing the provided supper, so though not bad for a 67 year old spring and summer rider on an old 2nd-hand hybrid bike, we will see what happens this year. Last year the 2nd day ride was cut short for everyone to about 75km due wild fire smoke coupled with hot temps, but thankfully not likely the case this year, knowing the ride is just days away now. This year I am cycling on a 2nd hand Trek road bike with the skinny tires and shifters built into the break levers, a first for me, a bike I picked up a month ago on Facebook Marketplace for $200, hoping the lighter bike will help this aging body make it in for supper again 1st day. But it also means needing stronger arms in the less upright position for the long ride, so we will see how the ride goes this year.
Our small Knights of Columbus team of 4 last year raised over $17,000 and collectively the 1,500+ riders on that 2 day ride raised just over 7 million, through corporate and individual donations, to help at least loosen cancer's grip on those we all know who suffer from it's many forms. Every donation of any size helps the collective fund raising to make a big difference. This year we have 5 riders on our K of C team, and looks like we are still in that $17,000 range for the team total, so thank you to all our supporters, you are the most important part of our team and every team in this ride. Hopefully we can build back to about the dozen riders we had on the K of C team pre-covid.
The ride this year will again be hard and it will be long, with some brutal hills along the way too despite the ride being in the mostly flat Fraser Valley, but the difficulty of the 2 day ride does not compare to the harder challenges faced by those battling cancer every day. So we do ride again, every year, to provide additional hope for those with cancer, and knowing also that many of us without cancer may someday be in that battle also and benefit from the extra research these annual rides fund..
So please consider supporting me by making a gift today. Your donation will help me achieve my fundraising goal AND motivate me in this challenge!
Thank you so much for your support!
