Please support my ride to fund the eradication of cancer

Dear Friends

This is getting to be a familiar narrative. For several years I have reached out and asked you to dig deep to support me in my ride, on my mission to get you and I to do a small part, in the move to eradicate cancer, the insidious disease that at best, disrupts our lives, and at worst, takes us or our loved ones.

Cancer does not discriminate. Healthy people. Unhealthy people. Rich people. Poor People. It shows up, suddenly, out of nowhere, and leaves its terrifying mark.

Every year I say this will be my last ride. And every year cancer hurts someone I love and leaves a wake of destruction in family and community. It does the same to you. Mums, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Friends. Tears swell. Throats go tight. And so I continue with the ride. I continue to ask. I continue to annoy.

The creation of new cancer treatments is a quest. Each year is better than the year before. Progress is being made. In prior years my teams have ridden for prostate, brain, and juvenile solutions. Those treatments have helped. This year we ride for Lymphoid Cancer research.

There is a long way to go. This year 235,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer, and 85,000 Canadians will die from it. It is the countrys leading cause of death.

I know you get asked to make contributions to many causes. All are worthy. I know that my asking can be annoying. But cancer is personal, really personal. And so I ask.

I want you to forego something. A nice dinner, some new clothes, or maybe a new car, and take the savings and donate to my ride, to the treatment and prevention of cancer, to a future state where it is a relic of the past.
