Please support me in the Tour de Cure!

Hi again, everyone....

Yes, here we go again! By now most of you are very familiar with the drill - me asking once again for your support (money!!) for the Tour de Cure. Formerly the Ride to Conquer Cancer, the Tour de Cure is the largest single fund raiser for the BC Cancer Foundation. Over the 14 years this event has taken place - this would have been year 15 but 2020 was cancelled due to Covid - millions of dollars have been raised with all funds going tothe BC Cancer Foundation. This is year 13 for me, and over those years you, my supporters, have raised close to $40,000! I am confident that this year will put us well over that mark! Not at all bad for just riding a bike.

This year the Tour de Cure is back to a two day ride, August 26th and 27th, after three years of uncertainty and adapted events. Once again our destination is the town of Hope - very aptly named for this event. Organizers are expecting approximately 2000 riders will be partcipating this year, and each of us have to raise at least $2500 to participate, but many riders riders raise much, much more than that.

This event has always been very dear to my heart. I know each of us have been impacted by cancer either directly or indirectly through someone we know and/or love. I know that each of our lists of friends and loved ones battling cancer - and lost to cancer - grows longer each year. But this event became that much more meaningful to me when my younger brother, Terry, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer a little over two years ago. Tragically, after a very courageous and dignified battle, he died two years ago this June. He continues to inspire me.

So please support me once agan this year so that someday we can defeat this insidious disease. I'll commit to riding the 220 km over the two days, no matter what the weather throws at us, but I do need your support.

Remember, "Hope" is the destination. Thanks so much.

Cheers, Hugh
