Please support me in the Tour de Cure!
My inspiration to join The Brainiacs Team in 2018 and participate in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, and now the Tour de Cure, comes from my husband John Lian, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour (glioblastoma multiforme) in June 2016, at age 54.
Around the time of this shocking diagnosis, John was told about The Brainiacs Team, founded in 2009 by four survivors with this same type of brain cancer. Always active, he had very much hoped to ride with the Brainiacs, also as a survivor. Sadly, John did not survive but passed away three months later.
As a wife, as a daughter (Joyce - breast cancer 1985), and as a niece (Auntie Jean - lung cancer 2017) I know the devastating, transformative, and lasting impact of a cancer diagnosis on the individual and on those who surround and love that individual. I know the primary emotions of love, fear, and hope that are entangled on the path no one wants to be on.
As a former oncology nurse, I know that cancer research is the key to bringing that essential hope into the conversation. Through research I have witnessed truly astounding improvements in treatments for long term survival and cure and healing during 30+ years with the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program.
Thank you Friends for your support!
Funds raised through the Tour de Cure will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer, and making an impact around the world.
