I'm taking on the Tour de Cure
Held by Michael Barrenger
"I was heartbroken when I was told you had cancer, Daddy."
Those were the entirely unprompted words of our 10 year old son, over a year after I had been diagnosed with cancer.
I had, of all things, tongue cancer. It was shocking, as I was a non-smoker, with no family history. Surgery in August 2021 was followed by radiation and chemotherapy through the fall.
The experience was emotionally and physically debilitating. But it would have been much more so without the excellent care at the BC Cancer Agency. That care was fuelled by research, which has improved outcomes for many types of cancer.
Even so, cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada, with roughly 2 in 5 Canadians getting cancer in their lifetimes. 1 in 4 will die of this awful disease.
This is my second year doing the Tour de Cure. Please donate, so that we can strike a blow againstthe heartbreak of cancer.
"Feed the faith, starve the doubt."
Thank you.
